WFMW: Five Ingredients or Less
Hooray for a themed Works-For-Me-Wednesday! This weeks WFMW theme is recipes with five ingredients or less.
This may be cheating, as the potential ingredient list for this meal is virtually unlimited, but I’ll list the five ingredients I always use and then some of the options.
Tuna Salad For Grown-Ups
1 can tuna, drained (I love to use albacore!)
1 tbl reduced fat mayonnaise (or to taste)
1/3 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup finely chopped/shredded carrots
1/2 cup finely chopped pickles
Drain tuna and mix with mayonnaise. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Serve over salad greens, in a wrap, sandwich or pita pocket, or eat with a fork straight out of the bowl. Keeps well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
I use these five ingredients every time I make this salad. Other tried and true options include sesame seeds, chopped celery, red onions or raisins. You can also substitute chicken for the tuna if you prefer. I’m always trying to think of new things to add, what would you put in this salad?
It’s quick, filling and makes a great lunch or light dinner on hot summer days. Enjoy!

I usually use relish instead of pickles, cuz it is already chopped up for me
But I NEVER thought of cranberries! YUM!!!

I have all those items in my house and I may be making this for lunch!
At camp they would chop up granny smith apples to put in the tuna. mmm it was yummers!

Yes, I put apples and onions in too. I can’t think of anything else right now…

I just made this for dinner time in class. Only difference is that what I thought were cranberries turned out to be currants. still good though! AND I realized this will be perfect for work next week when I have a peanut allergy kid.
Thanks for reminding me of this tasty treat of yours!!

Currants - fun! Good call with the relish and apples too. I’m thinking I need to go to the grocery store and get some cranberries so I can make some for my lunch.
Nichole, good thought with the peanut allergies. Let me know if the kiddos like it (because, of course, Andrew won’t eat it).

Oh I’m not sharing with the kids! Sometimes even the fumes of peanuts can send one of those poor buggers into anafalactic (I’m not looking up that spelling) shock.
But I’m sure they will look at my sammich and drool.

Not sharing with the kids makes so much more sense! I was trying to figure out why you were providing lunch for the kids.
Sweet mercy. That’s a lot of peanut allergy.
